SKAAR

SKAAR can't really comprehend where her wish to become an artist came from. Because even though her parents would sing her lullabies as a child, there wasn't a lot of music being played in their house, and her social circle wasn't part of the local music scene. Thankfully, that didn't stop her from becoming one of the most exciting new voices in Norwegian pop in the last few years.

It took a while before SKAAR, born Hilde Skaar, had the courage to tell anyone that she wanted to become a musician, and she didn't manage to make plans before everything suddenly took off. Hilde describes the moment when she was discovered by her management and record label as some sort of "iconic Bieber-moment times two", considering she signed with both almost right after she uploaded her first cover to YouTube.

  • According to SKAAR, the process was quite natural, but it didn't take long before the young artist went from being a completely blank canvas into a well-recognized songwriter. Her first single "Higher Ground" was released in 2018, and got rave reviews from both critics, the industry, and her constantly growing fanbase. Singles like "24" and "Turn of the Tide" made a huge impact on Norwegian radio, and she later played a bunch of showcase festivals the next year. SKAAR followed up with the debut EP "The Other Side of Waiting" (2020) and was nominated for both Best Pop and Best Newcomer at the Norwegian GRAMMYs, as well as Newcomer of the Year at P3 Gull and by:Larm the same year.
